Parent Connection

The Parent Connection - Faith and Family

As we prepare to embark on the “Fall Season” we have so much to be grateful for. The memories of summer past; trips, experiences, family once in a life-time adventures, and so much more. This is all tucked away in family albums, waiting for another time to be opened up and reminisced over.

This season of fall offers us such beauty, when nature begins to go to sleep for the winter and the air begins to become crisp and fresh. It reminds me of pumpkins, the leaves turning, and hot soup on a cool evening.

Of course back to school time is part of the picture as well. Our lives become more challenging, and our expectations increase. That parent-teen relationship can be a little tender at times.

The following is something to ponder… Adults feel as though they’re offering wonderful and insightful advice to their teens. I recently read a simple statement made that shines light on why this usually backfires; Unsolicited advice comes across as criticism. What do you think? Ask yourself: Who influenced you the most? My guess is what changed you was their life, not their answers.

Seeds are wonderful things; they just seem to do much better

when we plant them in rich, ready, tilled soil.

Food for Thought

  • The National Study of Youth and Religion recently found that three out of four religious teens consider their own beliefs to be similar to those of their parents. What’s more, 77% of teens who belonged to a church said that they expected to be part of a similar church as a young adult. So, you may have more of an influence on your teen than you realize. Continue to pass on the passion of your faith.
